In what ways does your family observe the Sabbath?

Subject: Keeping the Sabbath Holy

My family typically attends evening Mass on Saturdays as Sunday mornings are filled with the responsibilities of CCD - I teach and my children attend. In an effort to focus on our faith and family, we avoid any unnecessary household maintenance on Sunday and spend time together. We may read to the children, build a fire and drink hot cocoa, or take a walk. One weekend a month, we overnight at a friend’s remote cabin for some substantial spiritual and family time. No matter how busy we get, taking these "breaks" to focus on our family and the multitude of blessings God has showered on us is a critical part of keeping ourselves and our children focused on what’s truly important in our lives.
In a daily effort to "keep holy the Sabbath", I get up an hour earlier than I need to so I’ve got time for a leisurely cup of coffee with a chance to pray the Rosary. There is no better way for me to start the day than in quiet conversation with God. My prayer spot allows me to watch the rising sun color the sky and I keep a fragrant, lit candle nearby. This is my daily "Sabbath" and it gets me started on the right foot every time!
