I think the only virtue necessary for standing up for unpopular issues is courage. Courage to face the angry crowd the bitter words and slander. Our faith in God is what gives us the courage to stand up for our beliefs. Our confirmation gave us the strength through the Holy Spirit. Sometimes it even takes courage to express our dissatisfaction with issues of our own Catholic faith and to express our own feelings and opinions. I wonder how many people can really die for their faith if they had to?
