JC, makes sense to me what you are doing. God does not expect us to be doormats for every nut who comes along but He does expect us to be kind to everyone. You are forgiving of your uncle but to avoid the continual pain of his sting you distance yourself, staying out of the range of fire is commonsense and has nothing to do with religion. Continue to forgive him, he probably has problems you and even himself are not aware of.
