Why is it sometimes difficult to be generous in forgiving others?

Pride. Pride gets in the way of forgiveness. If we cannot say I forgive you, a smile at the individual who hurt us will start us on our way to forgiveness. The hurt will still be in our heart but at least we are being kind to the person who hurt us. It is worthwhile to have a short memory when someone hurts us and a long memory when someone is good to us.
