Doug, if you like to read a very good book about The Early Church. I recommend the Four Witnesses written by Rod Bennett, it chronicles the life and times of Clement of Rome, Ignatius of Antioch, Justin Martyr, Irenaeus of Lyons and includes the powerful passage The Martyrdom of Polycarp. Truly wonderful and touching at the same time. May the truth of the Holy Catholic Church set you free. It has for me. Dave :)
