I thought the movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding emphasized an important theme often missing in society today: that a strong sense of committment to family is what helps us through the tough parts of life. We need our family, and our family needs us. The movie helped me accept the dysfunctional aspects of my own German-Irish family, which in many ways is hilariously similar to the Greek family portrayed. I also thought the theme of self-confidence in our individual giftedness was important to hear.
