Does the military action the U.S. is contemplating against Iraq meet the standards of a just war?
Date: 4/5/2003 5:42:31 PM Name or Pseudonym: Catherine C Subject: War/IraqIn my opinion, the fact that American Christians (by the way, the MAJORITY of Americans) helping the downtrodden and tortured people of Saddam Husseins Iraq can only help the tarnished relations between Muslims and Christians. I think that in America, innumerous people are curious and intrigued by the Muslim world and have, indeed, encountered support and comraderie with Middle Eastern citizens here. Unfortunatel the news, in both Europe, the Middle East, and the United States, strives to promote its ideals; no one person in any region of the world actually gets the facts--we simply get opinions and ideas.
Helping those who cant help themselves; dying for others livlihood; sacrificing for your own beliefs; dying to make a point (literally, not figuratively), and realizing that this world is just the beginning...thats what Jesus did...so why isnt it good enough for us! Why cant we give of ourselves to help others in need?
A society bombarded by media with liberal and slanted views, a deference to Hollywood celebrities who can afford to spout off on their views, and a society that, in reality, will not sacrifice what it has for what it can have in the afterlife, has led to a populace of spoiled, manipulatable, and naive persons.
The Old Testament is frought with violence and the destruction of evil...so whats the problem? |
