Conversation Corner St. Francis of Assisi, Patron of Peace
Does the military action the U.S. is contemplating against Iraq meet the standards of a just war?
Date: 4/4/2003 12:45:50 PM Name or Pseudonym: Chris Subject: DistinctionThe Church has never said this war is wrong. The pope may express his opinion, but he cant speak for the Universal Church on matters of faith and morals unless he makes an ex cathedra pronouncement. And, if he were to do so we could not, morally speaking, support our troops. Can Catholics support abortion, or the people that provide abortion services? Thats not to say that we cant pray for them, but we could not in good conscience provide material support.
But, fortunately, we can rest easy knowing that the Popes position is not "the Churchs" and is non-binding. |
