Clergy Sex Abuse and the Catholic Church

How can the Catholic Church in the U.S. heal from the sex-abuse crisis?

"My problem with your comment is( the notion) that being "Catholic" is somehow more important than being Christian."

Catholics ARE Christians, Faith, or perhaps I should say, they SHOULD be. They were the first Christians. The Catholic Church holds the complete Truth. How strange that you appear to consider Catholicism and Christianity as two separate entities.

"Didn’t Jesus say, "love your neighbor"? You make it sound as though He said --Love Only your Catholic neighbor-- and believe me, I know plenty of people who think like you!!"

Explain how I make it sound as though Our Lord said love only your Catholic neighbour, please. There was nothing in what I wrote to lead you to make such an extraordinary assumption. Pardon me, but you don’t seem to have a clue how I think!! Perhaps you’ve got the "plenty of people" wrong too.

In a sense, life is like an exam which we’ve all got to pass. Catholics who take the trouble to learn their faith are given the answers to the exam. Protestants are given some of them. Some are given none. Now, if you were marking the exam at the end of the day, who would you give most credit to? Those who barely scraped through, even though they had the opportunity to know all the answers? Or those who passed without having foreknowledge of the answers? Or what about those who passed without even knowing they were sitting an exam? "To whom much is given, much is expected". God is just. This is not necessarily a comforting thought, Faith.

No Catholic I know thinks they are automatically bound for heaven. On the contrary, it is some of my Protestant friends who appear to hold the belief that they "are saved" and are heaven bound, come what may.

No Catholic worthy of the name would think "they’re better than Protestants". However, all Catholics who know their faith know that the Catholic Church holds the complete Truth - unlike Protestantism, which contains many errors and heresies. Ergo, logically they must believe that the Catholic Faith is better than Protestantism.

Christ did indeed come to bear witness to the Truth. You are very selective in bearing witness to what He said. "Thou Art Peter, and upon this rock I will found MY CHURCH" (not churches). You do not state if you are Catholic or not. If not, then of course I understand your comments and the confusion. If you are Catholic then your comments are inexplicable.
