How can the Catholic Church in the U.S. heal from the sex-abuse crisis?

The prayerful part of the ’Good Ole Days’ is what I believe Joe M to be speaking of in his reply. Although this is my assumption. I truly miss the exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and the Rosary. It was offered in our church and maybe 1% of our parish showed up for it. It has since been discontinued until there is more of a demand for it. Where two or three are gathered...

However, with that said, I believe that the priests should be preaching about the Love of God, the sacrifice that Jesus made for our sins and the fact that he gave us a chance at Redemption. If by fire and brimstone that you mean ’Repent and be baptized or else!’ then yes I agree. We should just stop at ’Repent and be baptized’ and be glad for those that do.

However, what I do think many people forget is that Jesus also said, ’Whose sins you shall forgive, they are forgiven and whose sins you shall retain are retained.’ The Sacrament of Penance has become a conversation with God rather than a Sacrament through our priests. People definitely have lost faith in their priests and in the example of Jesus they were to show. I think people fear the priest in the confessional more than they do God. This is more than a shame. Priests need to show Jesus’ loving example and then perhaps the people will have more respect for them.

Now, granted, there are many, many priests who do this already. It’s those bad apples that give the many good priests a bad name.

I thank goodness that one Bishop could find it in his heart to admit his wrongdoing. Psychologists aren’t too blame. The Bishop of Phoenix knows that transferring a pedophile will only perpetuate the situation. He admitted his sin and is asking forgiveness. Unfortunately it is also a crime and he knows this too. Some of those psychologists are on the Catholic payroll. It’s time to take the sodomy out of the Catholic Church and, like Lot in Genesis 19, protect our angels from them.
