How can the Catholic Church in the U.S. heal from the sex-abuse crisis?

I was going to weigh in on this issue because it is so important for the physician to heal thyself. No one outside can fix this problem. Ben hit the nail on the head. It is not any particular sin issue or we would have to chase down every sin. It is about broken trust between the leaders and laity. Broken by the leaders. It cannot be fixed by the laity.
