How can the Catholic Church in the U.S. heal from the sex-abuse crisis?

I’am SO TIRED about hearing of the "Good Old Days". I remember the Priests of my youth 1960’s who were abusive and out of touch with the people. They lacked Pastoral abilities to truly connect with the flock, and carried an arrogance and hardness to their personalities. This is NOT reflective of Jesus Christ in the least bit. The old HELL FIRE and BRIMSTONE approach to finding Jesus, and total surrender of the people to the Priest as though he is the only one who can be close to GOD, and one you never question. Catholics who reject and dishonor other faiths are a dying breed thanks be to God!
