Who has the management responsibility for the priests assigned to parishes ? Who reviews their performance ? If bishops were doing their job of management, then they are culpable along with the priests who have committed sexual crimes and sins. If they were not doing their job, they can plead ignorance. In either case, it seems clear that they are either culpable of poor managment or poor judgement or both. Who manages their performance ? Who will now decide what sanctions to impose as a result of the episcopal failures ? Why do we duck this crucial question ? Many of us call for accountability until it applies to bishops, etc. Why is that ?

The American bishops seem to always capitulate to the wishes of Rome whenther it is a matter of faith or morals or not. This latest matter is nothing new. The founding fathers of the nation got over their reluctance to take a stand and take the heat - thank goodness. Hopefully, the religious Fathers of our Church will do the same.
