Greg Kinnear gives an excellent performance as Robert Kearns, the real-life Detroit inventor of the intermittent windshield wiper who, with the support of his wife (Lauren Graham) and six children, obsessively persevered in taking Ford Motor Co. to court for the infringement of his patent. Though director Marc Abraham's absorbing film is formulaic in its basic structure, with the "bad guys" too obvious from the get-go and the "quality film" trappings a bit heavy-handed, the story of an individual standing up for his rights against impossible odds is irresistible and beautifully underscores the importance of family and human dignity. Some crude words, one instance of the F-word and intermittent profanity. The USCCB Office for Film & Broadcasting classification is A-II—adults and adolescents. The Motion Picture Association of America rating is PG-13—parents strongly cautioned; some material may be inappropriate for children under 13.
