Disquieting drama in which a teenage boy (Jon Foster) with writing aspirations becomes the summer assistant to a famed children's book author (Jeff Bridges) and has an affair with the author's estranged wife (Kim Basinger), who has been emotionally traumatized by the death of her sons. Failing to resonate on an emotional level, writer-director Tod Williams' film attempts to examine the strain of grief on a marriage, but remains superficial as selfish characters manipulate vulnerabilities, leaving innocent victims in their wake. A sexual relationship with a minor, extramarital affairs, a few graphic sexual situations and images, frontal nudity, and intermittent profanity and rough language. The USCCB Office for Film & Broadcasting classification is O -- morally offensive. The Motion Picture Association of America rating is R -- restricted.
