Visually daring but disorienting drama in which a writer (Anthony Hopkins) has a series of what may or may not be hallucinations peopled by the characters in the screenplay he's revising and by the actors and crew of the movie-within-a-movie (Stella Arroyave, Christian Slater, John Turturro, Michael Clarke Duncan, Camryn Manheim, Jeffrey Tambor, Gavin Grazer, Fionnula Flanagan and Christopher Lawford). The film, Hopkins' writing and directing debut, is technically and philosophically intriguing, but fails to establish any emotional connection with the characters. Shooting and a car accident with blood; much rough, crude and crass language; an obscene gesture; and some innuendo. The USCCB Office for Film & Broadcasting classification is A-III -- adults. The Motion Picture Association of America rating is R -- restricted. Under 17 requires accompanying parent or adult guardian.
