Gritty morality tale about two Detroit undercover narcotics officers (Jason Patric and Ray Liotta) obsessed with solving the murder of a fellow cop killed in the line of duty. Director Joe Carnahan buttresses a compelling story with solid performances and dynamic pacing, although the explicit violence and sometimes oblique narrative may prove off-putting. Some graphic violence, much rough language and profanities, and recurring drug content. The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops classification is A-IV -- adults, with reservations. The Motion Picture Association of America rating is R -- restricted.
