Thoughtful tale set at a mid-1970s boys' academy where an idealistic classics teacher (Kevin Kline) compromises his standards while trying to mold the character of a troubled student (Emile Hirsch). Despite a somewhat pat ending, director Michael Hoffman's ethics-centered drama sensitively explores the crucial importance of personal and professional integrity and its lifelong consequences. Mild sexual innuendo, fleeting topless photos and a few instances of profanity. The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops classification is A-II -- adults and adolescents. The Motion Picture Association of America rating is PG-13 -- parents are strongly cautioned. Some material may be inappropriate for children under 13.
