Disquieting drama chronicling the turbulent, symbiotic friendship between two London women (Anna Friel, Michelle Williams) from childhood into adulthood as they experience love, loss and betrayal and finally attempt to form identities separate from one another. Exploring a consuming relationship between codependent opposites, writer-director Sandra Goldbacher captures the difficulties that can disrupt even a close female relationship through authentic characterizations, but as the characters' manufactured problems pile up, the film drags and takes a depressing turn before abruptly ending on a sunny note. Several sexual situations with nudity, some drug abuse and recurring rough language with brief profanity. The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops classification is A-IV -- adults, with reservations. Not rated by the Motion Picture Association of America.
