A New Name for Our Media Mission!

We have changed!

The "we" is St. Anthony Messenger Press. From now on, we'll be known as Franciscan Media.

Why the change? Early this year, our management team, along with all of our co-workers, engaged in a major process of branding research. Because that work indicated that St. Francis and Franciscan spirituality are favorably perceived both among Catholics and among other Christians around the country, we decided to make this name change. Quite frankly, St. Anthony Messenger Press was a very long name and suggested to some people that we published only printed materials. Besides, more people know Francis of Assisi than Anthony of Padua.

In announcing this change, Father Dan Kroger, O.F.M., Franciscan Media’s CEO and publisher, pointed out, “The term Franciscan means something characterized by the life, teachings and values of St. Francis of Assisi.”

Father Dan continued: “Our independent research showed that St. Francis not only is remarkably well-known, but that those who know of the saint respect and relate well to him—perhaps more than any other figure in the Catholic church today.”

St. Francis, a 13th-century Catholic saint, is known for his care for the earth and all creation, protection of animals, lifestyle of simplicity and love of the poor. All were outward signs of his devotion to Jesus Christ. “These values make St. Francis very relevant today,” said Father Dan. “Issues concerning the environment, social and economic justice, aggressive consumerism and the need for inspiration and hope dominate our lives.

"We hope that this new name will work for us. But note that we still pray to St. Anthony of Padua, who remains the patron saint of our St. Anthony Messenger magazine.”

Our media production unit–responsible for American Catholic Radio and our other radio, audio and video resources–will now be called Franciscan Media Productions and can easily be reached through our new landing page: http:\\productions.FranciscanMedia.org.

Those of us involved with Franciscan Media Productions are pleased that our particular part of this Franciscan communications mission has for several years led the way in introducing the new "brand." We are happy to join with all of our colleagues in this great ministry to continue to bring you media that will help you "live in love and grow in faith."
