Upcoming Programs
Celebrate Francis of Assisi and Pray for Peace!

On October 27, Pope Benedict XVI will journey to Assisi, Italy, to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the meeting of Blessed Pope John Paul II with religious leaders there in 1986. Pope Benedict will hold a similar day of reflection, dialogue and prayer for peace and justice under the theme "Pilgrims of truth, pilgrims of peace." October's modern-day pilgrims will gather at two of the great Franciscan shrines in Assisi: the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels, which houses the tiny chapel known as the Porziuncola, where Francis and his brothers prayed, and also the Basilica of St. Francis itself, where the saint is buried.

We here at American Catholic Radio felt a special inspiration to mark this event and anniversary as well. Beginning today, we'll devote four programs to themes related to the Prayer for Peace in Assisi later this month. With Franciscan scholars, poets, musicians, as well as others familiar with Franciscan themes, we'll explore how that great tradition can influence Catholics today.

Join us as "virtual pilgrims" on American Catholic Radio and through special Franciscan features on our websites, http://www.americancatholic.org/ and www.FranciscanMedia.org!
