Father Jeremy Harrington, O.F.M.
Jeremy Harrington, OFM, is the associate pastor at Transfiguration Parish in Southfield, Michigan. Previously he was the guardian of the Franciscan Monastery in Washington, DC, and Commissary of the Holy Land. There he worked to promote vocations, pilgrimages, and the national Good Friday Collection to support the ministry of the Franciscans in the Holy Land.
In his many years as a Franciscan, he served as a teacher in high school, minister of the Province of St. John the Baptist, and editor and publisher of St. Anthony Messenger Press (now Franciscan Media). In addition to many articles and editorials in St. Anthony Messenger magazine, he published Planning Your Wedding Liturgy, Conscience in Today’s World, and the booklet “The Way of the Cross for Congregational Use.”
He holds a degree in journalism from Northwestern University and in English from Xavier University. He served on the US bishops’ Communications Committee and as president of the Catholic Press Association.
Jim Van Vurst, O.F.M.
Fr. Jim Van Vurst, OFM has been a Franciscan friary for 62 years and a priest for 54 years. After ordination, he received his graduate degree in psychology and taught for 18 years in his Province’s college seminary. He has done pastoral counseling in mental health clinics and does spiritual direction. His ministries include 15 years as chaplain at a maternity home, 11 years as Pastoral Care Director in a large Midwestern retirement and nursing center as well as administration in his own Franciscan Province.
Currently, he is assistant pastor at St. Clement Parish in Cincinnati and is on the staff at St. Anthony Messenger and American Catholic.org for the past 8 years in the ministry of evangelization. He is also an accomplished watercolor artist since 1989.
