Sisters in Catholic Life
Let American Catholic Radio challenge the faith of your listeners
with these powerful ways to express our faith! American Catholic Radio celebrates
the gifts of religious sisters in Catholic life—and one holy sister in particular!
Fifty years ago, Catholic schools were staffed primarily by sisters,
who were also more visible in other ministries of the Church, such as hospitals. In recent
years, the role of women religious in the Church has changed considerably, as has the number
of sisters working in the Church. Another change has been the need for sisters’ communities
to provide for the retirement of their older members. We’ll meet a recent college
graduate who established a relationship with a 94-year-old Holy Cross Sister; their relationship
reminds us of this important vocation in the Church—in both the past and the present.
It’s been almost three years since Mother Teresa of Calcutta
was beatified by Pope John Paul II before a crowd of 300,000 pilgrims in St. Peter’s
Square. Blessed Mother’s entire life, he said, was “a bold proclamation of
the gospel.” Her feast day is September 5, and we’ll visit with a woman who
was so touched by the life of Mother Teresa that she became a lay missionary. Well
also meet an Indian Jesuit who is preparing to serve his people through the media.
Let us continue to serve your people through this medium of
radio and the Web!
Father Greg Friedman, O.F.M.
