Contemplative Prayer
Centuries ago, ordinary Catholics marveled as Michelangelo covered
the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel with brilliant frescoes to proclaim the mysteries of
faith and help in the contemplation of God’s work of creation. Today, we use the
Internet, video and radio to do the same. We here at American Catholic Radio aren’t
claiming to be the Michelangelos of the airwaves. But we do want to use both ancient and
modern technologies to grow in faith.
Dr. Michael Downey, a professor of theology and spirituality from
the Los Angeles archdiocesan seminary and an expert in the subject of contemplative prayer,
draws on the writings of America’s great contemplative monk and author, Thomas Merton,
to help us learn how to make contemplation a part of life. Michael J. Copps, a commissioner
of the Federal Communications Commission, shares why values we Catholics share—diversity,
creativity and access to media—are important to safeguard in our changing communications
environment.
Join us in connecting your listeners to the heart of our Catholic faith!
