More Than a Century of Media Ministry

For over 100 years, the Franciscans and their co-workers at St. Anthony Messenger Press have been telling stories. They began with immigrant Catholics, who found themselves in a strange new country, where their faith and way of life were mocked on the streets and in the popular press. The Franciscans helped them nurture their Catholic identity, first through German-language devotional magazines, and later through St. Anthony Messenger.

In a new century and a new time in the Church, the friars and their colleagues in media production added the images and sounds of Franciscan Communications to their storytelling tools. We share the legacy of St. Francis, who went to the marketplace to preach and who spoke the language of God’s creation in a way that all could understand. Our media resources are in thousands of homes, hundreds of parishes and reach millions on the Web at www.AmericanCatholic.org and through Franciscan Radio and our "flagship program," American Catholic Radio.

The tools and the technology may be changing. But Catholics still have stories to tell. Catholics have a unique identity within our American culture. In the next few months, we'll be launching a new Web presence for our Franciscan Media ministry. Stay tuned—we're planning some exciting ways to reach an even-wider audience with an array of resources. Meanwhile, let us share with you through our "audiocasts" at www.FranciscanRadio.org and let us hear what you'd like to hear—and see—from us!
