Holy Week
The Lenten season ends with next week’s celebration of Holy
Week and then the Easter Triduum—the three-day celebration of Jesus’ death
and resurrection. In Catholic parishes like my own, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Catholics will
gather to pray and recall the great events which gave us life, and welcome new members.
In these final days of Lent, the Church’s liturgy begins to focus on Christ’s
passion and death. The Scripture stories are a large part of the liturgical celebrations
in these days. To help your listeners understand the biblical stories, we’ll visit
with one of our country’s most prominent Catholic biblical scholars, Father Donald
Senior, president of the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago and member of the Pontifical
Biblical Commission in Rome. Father Senior will talk about the holy city of Jerusalem and
the Passion Narratives in the Gospels.
Producer Judy Zarick wraps up her series of “Living Faith” interviews
with members of local RCIA programs welcoming new members into the Church, and our weekly “Catholic
Treasures” will feature Lent-related topics.
I will remember your listeners and your radio ministry in my prayers
during these days. Together, may we celebrate the Church’s holiest days and the richness
of our faith! Let’s thank God for the privilege of bringing that richness to your
listeners with American Catholic Radio!
