In a "Lenten Rut"?

The third and fourth weeks of Lent might find us a bit weary of our Lenten routine. After all, conversion (our ACR theme) is an ongoing process, but changing long-time habits, getting out of our ďrutsĒ can be difficult! In fact, itís impossible without God.

So, be honest: How have you observed Lent? If you gave something up, have you cheated? If you resolved to do some positive praying or works of charity, have to stuck with that practice? I know that sometimes Iíve fallen pretty short in my Lenten practices.

But Lent isnít measured on a spreadsheet or a checklist. Thereís no heavenly scorecard being monitored by an angel, ready to flunk you on Lent this year! Lent is an observance of the heart: your heart to Godís! Each day of Lentófrom the first to the 25th to the 40thóis a new day. Thatís what wonderful about conversion. Itís renewable.

So no matter how your Lent or mine has gone so far, today letís ask God to help us make a small step in responding to the great love weíve been shone in Jesus. That prayer alone will revive you!

And we hope that all our Franciscan Radio offerings: American Catholic Radio, Sunday Soundbites, Sharing the Word and our annual Lenten Radio Retreat will be of help to you in continuing your Lenten journey!
