God Give You Peace

The Lord revealed to me this greeting, that we should say, “The Lord give you peace.”

How often Saint Francis reiterates the need for peace: peace of soul, peace among people, peace in our relationship to nature, peace in our search for God. For Saint Francis peace is one of the greatest gifts, for in peace all the other virtues grow and because it is the gift Jesus left us after his Resurrection when he says to his disciples, “Peace be with you” (John 20:21). It is this peace of Christ that we in turn are to share with others through the greeting the Lord revealed to Saint Francis, “The Lord give you peace.”

In this Easter season especially, we might ask ourselves the following questions: Do I wish others peace? How do I show that I am a person of peace?
