Archbishop
Daniel E. Pilarczyk, ordained in 1959, was named auxiliary bishop
of Cincinnati in 1974 and archbishop in 1982. He is a native of
Dayton, Ohio. He has served in a variety of national and international
posts in the Roman Catholic Church, including president of the
National Conference of Catholic Bishops (1989-1992) and U.S. delegate
to the International Commission on English in the Liturgy (1987-1997).
He served as Chairman of that 11-conference body from 1991-1997.
Archbishop Pilarczyk currently
is chairman of the Committee on Doctrine for the U.S. National
Conference of Catholic Bishops.
In addition to a number of
advanced theological degrees from the Pontifical Urban University
in Rome, Italy, he holds a Ph.D. in classics from University of
