All are invited to the Blessing! Father will bless the animals and each pet will receive a medal to put on its collar or cage. There will be a special “guest appearance” by St. Francis. See our website for a parking and campus map. For the safety & protection of the animals, all pets must be on a leash or in a carrier. St. Francis of Assisi, Italy, has been an important figure in the history of Christianity since his death almost 800 years ago. He was born into a prosperous family, but lived his life in poverty and made charity towards others a priority. He saw God’s hand in all creation and is known for his love of all God’s creatures.

The annual blessing takes place on the Jones Plaza and adjacent lawn. The worship service features music by the St. Paul’s Children’s Choirs. The Houston Police Department’s mounted patrol division and K-9 division have been invited. Rev. Terry Thompson will begin the service with a pet processoinal and conclude with an opportunity for each pet to receive an individual blessing. The blessing service celebrates the important place that pets hold in the lives of our families. It reminds us of the wonder of God’s creation and our role as stewards of the earth and all of its creatures. Those whose pets don't travel well or don't get along well with other animals are asked to bring a photograph of their pet. All pets should be held or remain on leashes, and children must be accompanied by an adult. Also, children may bring stuffed animals for a blessing. Photographs from previous years’ services are in the News and Events/Newspaper section on St. Paul’s website. St. Paul’s UMC is located across from the Museum of Fine Arts. Free parking is available across Fannin Street from the church, and Museum District MetroRail stops are within walking distance of the church.
