St. Francis of Assisi has captured the hearts of many—Christians and non-Christians alike—for the past 800 years. He is known and admired as a man of poverty and prayer who embraced lepers, preached and lived the goodness of God and saw God's hand in all of creation. St. Francis is also a symbol of reconciliation. He was a man of peace who put aside a military career and spent his life serving Jesus Christ and living his gospel.
Like Francis,
we are all called to be peacemakers in our daily lives. The "1,000 Years
of Peace" project invites all of us to see ourselves as instruments of
peace: at home; at the workplace; through our local, national and international
